How it works
Five FDA sources, one firm, with the evidence shown.
FDA publishes what it knows about foreign food suppliers in five places, under no common name or number. Supplier Brief collects all five, keeps their history, and links each record to the firm it is about.
Where the data comes from
Only FDA's own public records: U.S. government works, free to republish. Nothing is changed.
| Source | What it tells you | We refresh |
|---|---|---|
| Import alerts | Whether FDA can detain the firm's products at the border without examining them (Red List), or has exempted it (Green List), and for which products. | Nightly |
| Import refusals | Shipments FDA refused entry, with the product and the reason. Refusal charges are put in plain English from FDA's own list of charge codes. | Weekly |
| Inspections | FDA inspections of the facility and how each was classified: No Action, Voluntary Action or Official Action Indicated, with what was cited. | Weekly |
| Warning letters and compliance actions | Formal FDA letters and actions against the firm. | Letters daily, actions weekly |
| Recalls | Food recalls naming the firm, with class and status. | Weekly |
How records are linked to a supplier
A wrong link would name the wrong company, so the rules are strict and the evidence is shown.
When FDA gives a number
Refusals, inspections and compliance actions carry the FDA Establishment Identifier (FEI). Every record with the same FEI belongs to the same facility, however the name is spelled.
When it does not
Import alerts, warning letters and recalls carry only a name and an address. We link them only when the name (ignoring legal forms such as "Pvt Ltd") and the street address both agree. A shared city is not enough: one company often runs several plants in one city.
When it is close
A record that looks similar but does not agree closely enough is shown apart as "possibly the same firm", with the reason, and never counted. You judge it against your supplier's address.
History, including removals
FDA lists import alerts as they stand today: a firm taken off a list simply disappears. We keep a dated copy of every import alert each night, so from October 2026 on, a firm's page shows when it was added and when it was taken off.
What it is not
- Not an FDA service. Supplier Brief is not affiliated with or endorsed by the FDA.
- Not a judgement that a firm or product is safe or unsafe. It reports what FDA recorded, in FDA's terms.
- Not your whole supplier evaluation. It covers the FDA compliance history that FSVP asks you to consider; your qualified individual evaluates the rest. What FSVP asks for
